Good morning! It’s finally here: the day we have been waiting for for an entire year, Viola Camp 2013! In A few short hours, kids from all over the US will gather in McCall, Idaho for a week of music, camping and friendship. Keep up with our activities throughout the week. We will be posting pictures, stories and information about performances. Viola Power!
After waiting 51 long weeks, camp “family reunions” have started happening! The past 24 hours have brought two campers from Massachusetts back to spend some time with their host families before camp gets under way. Welcome back to Barra and Lachlan. We are so glad you could join us for another great week of music making and friendship!
It’s now 4 days before camp starts! Many exciting things are happening. Folders are being prepared for students, the carpool is being finalized, meals are planned and students are on their way. Tonight, we welcome Lachlan, a camper from Martha’s Vineyard!
Campers: check your e mails often. You should have received 2 by now.
We are less than a week away from Viola Camp 2013! Keep checking your email for important updates. You should have received your community food assignments this morning. Lots of e mails will be coming out over the next several days.
Musical highlights for this year’s camp include the William Tell Overture, several fun fiddle tunes, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, (as arranged by Emily!) and Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture.
Out of state campers begin arriving tomorrow!
Welcome to Idaho Viola Camp! We have 40 students joining us from 6 states this summer. Enrollment for camp is now CLOSED. Please consider Idaho Viola Camp for 2014. Dates to be announced soon!
Idaho Viola Camp is a unique experience where musicians combine their love of playing the viola with their love of the great outdoors. In addition to making great music, we also go on hikes, canoeing, swimming, have campfires, and much, much more.
2013 Campers: the first information e mail has been sent out. Contact us RIGHT AWAY if you did not receive it.
We are now 6 days away from the third annual Day Viola Camp for 5-7th graders!
The Day Camp will be lots of fun. We will be learning a variety of pieces, start work on vibrato and shifting, play plenty of C and F naturals, have lots of outdoor adventures, make cool T Shirts, and much, much more!
If you are attending camp, a few reminders. Camp goes from 9:30-4:00 Monday-Thursday. On Friday, we will have a performance at 10:00 for our friends and families. After the performance, you are done! Activities this year include canoeing, swimming, bowling and an adventure to a local park!
We have a great team of teachers and helpers this year. Viola Camp offers the opportunity for older students to share their knowledge and enthusiasm with the younger students. All of our high school helpers have attended Viola Camp in the past! Our teachers this year are Jennifer Drake and Emily White. Emily is an outstanding music teacher with the Meridian School District, and has recently worked with the Boise Schools Summer Music Program. She performs with the Meridian Symphony. Jen is the founder of Viola Camp and performs with the Boise Philharmonic.
There is space for two more students at the Day Camp. Sign up here!
MCCALL CAMP REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED! We have surpassed our cap, and to ensure a positive experience for those attending, we will no longer be accepting student applications. There are still spots left for our Boise Day Camp.
Idaho Viola Camp is a unique, casual camp for violists. There are two camp opportunities. There is a Day Camp for students in 4-7th grades with 1-2 years of playing experience, and McCall Camp for students entering 8th grade and older.
At the McCall camp, students camp overnight at Ponderosa State Park. Viola classes are held at First Congregational Church. A variety of outdoor activities take place each day, including hikes, frisbee, visits to hot springs, barbecues and canoeing. McCall camp is August 4-10, 2013.
The Day Camp is held at The Summit Church in Boise from 9:30-4:00 each day, with a concert at 10:00 on the final Friday of camp. In addition to musical activities, each day has a recreational activity, such as swimming, canoeing, and bowling. The Day Camp is June 24-28, 2013. There is still space for campers at the Boise Day Camp.
